Award-Winning Voices: How RadioCATA Is Amplifying Immigrant Stories and Powering Community Change

RadioCATA 102.5 FM is proud to celebrate a major milestone: our bimonthly program “Si Se Puede” has been named a 2026 Excellence in Community Media Award honoree by the Center for Cooperative Media at Montclair State University. This recognition honors our work documenting the real stories of immigrants and farm labor workers while advancing workers’ rights and food justice. It is also a powerful reminder of why community media matters so deeply.

At RadioCATA, our mission goes beyond broadcasting. We use radio as a tool to inform, connect, and empower the immigrant community. Through “Si Se Puede,” which airs every second and fourth Tuesday of the month, we share critical information about labor rights, immigrant rights, workplace health and safety, food justice, and the work of CATA. For many listeners, this information is not just helpful—it is essential. You can also listen to past episodes here.

Our programming reflects the richness, diversity, and needs of our community. Some of our shows include “Línea Abierta,” which keeps listeners informed with news from the U.S. and Mexico in Spanish; “El Cotorreo,” a space for music, community updates, and humor; and “Mezclas en Vivo con Jonny,” where listeners can enjoy a mix of genres and request songs. Other programs like “Serenata con Francisco,” and “Viernes de Parranda con Ignacio ‘El Solitario’” create opportunities for connection, cultural expression, and celebration through music and storytelling.

As RadioCATA coordinator Jorge Rangel shared, radio creates a unique kind of connection. A live voice can inform, accompany, and unite people in ways other platforms cannot. It is accessible, resilient, and deeply rooted in community life—especially for immigrant communities seeking trusted, culturally relevant information.

This award belongs to our entire community—to every story shared, every voice amplified, and every person who has trusted us. It strengthens our commitment to continue showing up and ensuring that our communities have access to the information and resources they deserve.

To keep RadioCATA on the air, we invite you to become a sponsor. Your support helps sustain this vital community resource and amplifies the voices that matter most. Learn more here.
