Connecting Culture and Community: Introducing Our Unique CSA

“My favorite has been the poblano peppers. My spaghetti turned out so delicious! My least favorite has been the beets, but I think that’s because I don’t know many ways to prepare them. What would I like them to include? More tomatoes, both red tomatoes and tomatillos, as well as red and yellow bell peppers.” shared one happy participant in CATA’s Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) initiative.

We are thrilled to launch a unique CSA initiative designed to bring fresh, culturally meaningful food directly to our neighbors.

Traditional CSA models connect consumers directly with local farms through weekly produce shares. Our version expands that idea, tailoring every share to reflect the rich culinary traditions and preferences of the community we serve. By growing and sourcing items that resonate with our roots, we are ensuring that fresh food feels familiar, nourishing, and personal.

To bring this vision to life, we have formed an exciting partnership with a local farmer.

Land Sharing & Expansion

The farmer is renting a portion of his farmland directly to us, allowing us to significantly expand our growing capacity and plant specific cultural crops.

Direct Purchasing & Variety

In addition to growing our own crops, we are directly purchasing produce from our partner farm to guarantee a rich, diverse selection of fresh items in every weekly share.

This collaboration allows us to combine our community-focused mission with experienced local farming knowledge, creating a resilient local food network.

This year, we are piloting the program and entering its final stretch! Over 10 weeks, 13 selected participants are receiving weekly shares of 8 to 12 lbs. of fresh produce. In return, they are giving us valuable feedback and sharing their experiences to help us refine the model for the future.

We plan to open this program to more community members next year at an affordable cost. If you are interested in joining, learning more, or getting involved in CATA’s Food Justice Program and community garden, please contact Kathia Ramírez, Program Co-Coordinator, at kramirez@cata-farmworkers.org.

In the meantime, we are working on a catchy, lively name for the initiative, so stay tuned and follow us on social media!
